About The Position

Virginia Information Technology Agency (VITA) is seeking an experienced Tolling Solutions Architect to support VDOT’s ITD Tolling initiatives. This role will lead enterprise-level architecture and systems integration efforts across cloud, hybrid, and SaaS environments while collaborating with business stakeholders, enterprise architects, and Agile development teams. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in enterprise application design, Azure architecture, and systems integration while supporting strategic modernization efforts for tolling technology solutions.

Requirements

  • 8 years of experience in enterprise-level application design and integration
  • 8 years of experience in Azure cloud-native and hybrid architecture
  • 8 years of experience in SaaS architecture
  • 8 years of experience with integration architecture and Agile/Scrum teams
  • Proven experience developing enterprise and solution-level architecture designs
  • Experience overseeing integrations across disparate business units and systems
  • Experience with business and technical requirements analysis, business process modeling, and data mapping
  • Strong knowledge of relational database design and management techniques
  • Experience with XML constructs and schemas
  • Experience working with SOAP and REST API protocols
  • Strong understanding of software quality assurance methodologies and project lifecycle practices
  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills
  • Ability to work creatively and analytically in a collaborative team environment
  • Candidate must physically reside within the United States for the duration of the assignment
  • Candidate must be able to attend meetings in Richmond, VA as needed, up to one day per week
  • Local candidates strongly preferred
  • Webcam participation is required for virtual interviews
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future

Responsibilities

  • Design enterprise-level application and solution architectures for tolling and business systems
  • Develop conceptual, logical, and physical system designs, including data models and sequence diagrams
  • Create architecture artifacts, technical estimates, workflows, and integration designs
  • Design and implement cloud-native, hybrid, and SaaS architecture solutions within Azure environments
  • Define system integration strategies across enterprise applications and COTS platforms
  • Capture and analyze requirements for data, workflows, hardware, operating systems, interfaces, and controls
  • Evaluate technical feasibility, compatibility, and scalability of proposed solutions
  • Implement enterprise security and technology patterns across supported platforms
  • Support API and integration initiatives utilizing REST and SOAP protocols
  • Ensure architectural consistency and alignment with enterprise technology standards
  • Partner with business stakeholders to assess operational needs and translate them into technical solutions
  • Collaborate with enterprise architects and cross-functional technical teams to support strategic initiatives
  • Develop roadmaps and architecture strategies aligned with agency KPIs and modernization goals
  • Provide architecture guidance and tactical direction for legacy system initiatives
  • Coordinate development activities to ensure integration with existing enterprise systems
  • Support Agile/Scrum and SAFe architecture practices across development teams
  • Assist with business process modeling, methodology development, and data mapping efforts
  • Maintain architecture documentation and technical design standards
  • Contribute to software quality assurance and governance best practices
  • Communicate technical concepts and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Benefits

  • Compensation range: $77 – $97 per hour
  • Hybrid work arrangement
  • Candidate must be available to attend on-site meetings in Richmond, VA up to one day per week as needed
