The VDC Coordinator role involves working in a fast-paced construction site office environment, collaborating with project managers, superintendents, and engineers. This position is central to implementing and managing Building Information Modeling (BIM) strategies, developing project-specific workflows, and utilizing BIM data for various construction phases from estimating to facilities management. The coordinator will also be involved in design reviews, clash detection, managing BIM data, setting up Common Data Environments, leading coordination meetings, generating reports and construction documents, and leveraging 3D modeling and reality capture technologies like LiDAR, Drones, and 360 Photography. A key aspect of the role is to share construction technology knowledge and mentor the project team, while also participating in R&D and continuous professional growth within EllisDon's VDC community.

Requirements

  • University degree/ Technology Diploma in Engineering, Architecture, M&E or related field.
  • 1-3+ years of professional experience with focus on BIM Management, Modeling and technologies, or construction coordination, preferably on site.
  • Relevant experience in engineering and/or construction fields, including document production and M&E coordination.
  • Proficient in Autodesk Construction Cloud, Revit, AutoCAD / AutoCAD Civil 3D and Navisworks is required.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and/or Bluebeam.
  • High level of knowledge interpreting design and construction drawings.
  • Understanding of openBIM and information management standards such as ISO19650.
  • Passionate about the construction industry and innovation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential along with the ability to work together.
  • Excellent organization, time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, passionate, innovative, and creative.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Revizto, Synchro, Leica Geosystems are considered an asset.
  • BIM-related training or certifications considered an asset (Building Transformations, BuildingSMART).
  • Transport Canada RPAS (Drone) Operator Certification (Or the ability to achieve).

Responsibilities

  • Working in the fast-paced environment of a construction site office as part of a team alongside project managers, superintendents, and engineers.
  • Collaborate with VDC Leadership team to build a BIM Execution Plan, Master Information Delivery Plan (MIDP) and VDC implementation strategy.
  • Understand the owner BIM / Employers Information Requirements (EIR) and Exchange Information Requirements (EIR).
  • Deploy a custom suite of software tools to prepare model-based deliverables.
  • Have the freedom and creativity to develop project specific workflows that utilize BIM data for estimating, logistics, planning, scheduling (4D), coordination, field layout, and facilitates management.
  • Develop solutions with the project stakeholders by performing model-based design and constructability review, clash detection and visualization.
  • Manage and maintain BIM data generated from various sources throughout design and construction.
  • Setup and Maintain Common Data Environment (CDE) using industry standard cloud-based systems.
  • In accordance with ISO19650 framework and EllisDon specific folder structure, version, and permission control protocols.
  • Lead coordination meetings with designers, trades, and suppliers.
  • Utilizing business intelligence and analytics software develop customized BIM quality and Issue management reports for team distribution.
  • Generate drawings and construction documents from the BIM using standardized details and workflows.
  • Work closely with the field team using the intelligent building models to track the progress on site and contribute on the overall project schedules and plans.
  • Use your 3D Modeling skills to model Site, Architectural, Structural, MEP and Construction Logistic elements as needed for representation, visualization, and coordination.
  • Facilitate the deployment of reality capture, utilizing LiDAR, Drones and 360 Photography for model integration, progress tracking, QA/QC, analysis, and visualization.
  • Share your passion of construction technology with the project team by teaching and mentoring them as they learn new software and workflows.
