This position performs all required ultrasound and clinical evaluations at a technical level. The Vascular Sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics and is self-motivated to increase their understanding and knowledge of vascular disease and new procedures. They perform clinical assessment and diagnostic vascular laboratory examinations, using cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images. The role is responsible for the safety, mental, and physical comfort of the patient while in their care. The position also assists with the maintenance of laboratory accreditation and establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all customers. A thorough knowledge of cardiac and/or vascular anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamic principles, as well as two-dimensional color flow and doppler waveform analysis, is required. Understanding of age-related protocols for various testing is also necessary. Excellent communication skills are essential for working with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare workers. This position may have access to medications for distribution to licensed personnel and may perform ultrasound procedures for a mobile outreach program and vascular screenings at various locations, which may involve driving Sanford vehicles, flying by aircraft, and occasional overnight stays.
