About The Position

The Vascular Sonographer is responsible for performing high quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations of the vascular system, including arterial and venous vessels, to assist physicians in diagnosing vascular diseases. This role includes assessing blood flow and identifying abnormalities in arteries and veins using duplex ultrasound equipment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program with a focus in Vascular Sonography.
  • Registered Diagnostic Vascular Sonographer (RVT) through ARDMS.
  • BLS certification.
  • 1 year of experience as a Vascular Sonographer.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years’ experience as a Vascular Sonographer.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive vascular ultrasound studies, including carotid, abdominal, peripheral arterial and venous, ABI testing, graft and stent surveillance, and venous reflux examinations.
  • Operate ultrasound, ABI machine, and other diagnostic imaging equipment to acquire high-quality vascular images.
  • Utilize Doppler ultrasound techniques (color flow, spectral Doppler, pulse wave Doppler) to assess blood flow and detect vascular abnormalities.
  • Strong knowledge of vascular anatomy, pathology, and sonographic principles with the ability to recognize normal and abnormal vascular findings.
  • Analyze data and prepare preliminary findings for the interpreting Cardiologist or Radiologist.
  • Collaborate closely with Cardiologist, Radiologist, and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient care.
  • Explain procedures to patients, ensuring comfort and safety throughout the process.
  • Review and evaluate images for clarity, completeness, and diagnostic value.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, documentation, and reports in the PACS or EMR system.
  • Maintain equipment, perform quality control checks, and report malfunctions promptly.
  • Comply with infection control, HIPAA, and patient safety standards.
  • Stay current with continuing education and new vascular assessment techniques.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement and accreditation processes (IAC Vascular).

  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
