About The Position

Provides direct care for pediatric patients’ comfort, safety, and personal needs under the direction and supervision of the Vascular Access RN. Supports the unit with supplies and equipment and assists VAT nurses with PICC, Midline, and extended-dwell IV placements. Conducts line audits across the facility, provides feedback to nursing staff, and helps ensure CLABSI bundles are followed. The role includes age-specific patient and family care, delegated procedure support, accurate documentation, coaching staff on line access, clerical and follow-up duties, and support for other units and team members as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Current and valid Nurse Aide registry in Nebraska, unless currently a nursing student.
Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
Ability to perform varied duties and change tasks efficiently while maintaining composure, including under stressful conditions and when prioritizing multiple requests.
Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

Experience as a nursing assistant with pediatric patients.
Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

Provide individualized, age-specific patient and family care, including assisting with PICC, Midline, and extended-dwell IV procedures as delegated by an RN and supervised by a Vascular Access nurse or Interventional Radiologist.
Follow hospital policies, patient care plans, delegated tasks, and physician orders.
Demonstrate appropriate line care for infant, toddler, preschool, school-age, and adolescent patients, incorporating patient and family input.
Complete delegated tasks for the VAT RN or Interventional Radiologist within an appropriate timeframe, and help the multidisciplinary team address patient and family care needs.
Set and revise priorities based on urgency, requests, department demands, schedules, and available resources.
Document care and line audits accurately and within established timeframes using the appropriate EPIC flowsheets.
Audit line access and dressing changes to verify CLABSI bundles and correct techniques; participate in the CLABSI committee, coach nurses on proper line access, and maintain understanding of line-care and CLABSI guidelines.
Perform clerical and receptionist duties as needed.
Complete follow-up procedural checkup calls for patients who have had a line placed or an IR procedure.
Maintain regular attendance and meet the physical requirements of the job.
Accept assignments to float to other units, using certified nursing assistant skills and appropriate resources, and support the assigned unit professionally.
Share and teach knowledge and provide preceptor support for new certified nursing assistant staff when assigned.
Help teammates during the shift and complete other assigned tasks professionally.
