The Vascular Access Specialist is primarily responsible for the insertion of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC) in the outpatient as well as the inpatient setting. They use the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care provided to individuals with complex vascular access needs. The specialist actively accepts, understands, and practices appropriate standards of intravenous nursing and actively supports the mission, vision, and values of the hospital and department. Additional responsibilities include repair of PICC lines, declotting of all vascular access devices, and dressing changes to all vascular access devices. They also provide education and training to patients and staff on vascular access device care and management.
