About The Position

The Vascular Access / PICC RN is responsible for the assessment, insertion, management, and maintenance of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC lines) and other vascular access devices. This role requires advanced clinical expertise, strong assessment skills, and close collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, timely, and effective vascular access for patients across the hospital. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • California Registered Nurse License
  • National Provider BLS - American Heart Association
  • National Provider ACLS - American Heart Association
  • 1 year of Nursing experience.

Nice To Haves

  • National Certification in area of specialty is preferred, unless otherwise indicated
  • ACLS- American Heart Associated strongly preferred
  • Ultrsound-guided vascular access training verification strongly preferred
  • At least 6 months experience placing PICC lines strongly preferred
  • Previous ER, ICU, Interventional Radiology, or Cath Lab experience
  • VA-BC (Vascular Access - Board Certified)
  • Certified through BD in PICC line placement

Responsibilities

  • Perform ultrasound‑guided vascular access procedures, including bedside PICC line placement
  • Assess patients for appropriate vascular access device selection based on clinical indication and vascular anatomy.
  • Maintain and manage PICC lines according to evidence‑based practice and organizational policy.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on PICC care, infection prevention, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and ancillary services to coordinate care and support timely procedures.
  • Accurately document procedures, assessments, and patient responses in the electronic medical record.
  • Monitor patients for complications related to vascular access and initiate appropriate interventions.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to vascular access outcomes and patient safety.
