The function of a coach is to properly educate students through participation in interscholastic competition. The interscholastic program is designed to enhance academic achievement and should never interfere with opportunities for academic success. In recognition of this, the following are some of the responsibilities for this position: The coach is accountable for the culture of the team and conduct of any of the assistant coaches, players, team officials, and team-affiliated spectators. Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by the coaching staff. Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship. Adhere to injury procedures established by the Pelham High School Athletic Department. Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities. Have the total athletic and school program at interest. Be supportive of student participation in other school activities and communicate with colleagues regarding expectations in and out of season. Develop a program not only within the high school but within the town and community by connecting with the middle school and youth programs.
