About The Position

CENTREVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS is seeking a Varsity Cheer Coach. This position reports to the Athletic Director and is responsible for the administration, supervision, and evaluation of Centreville’s cheer program. The coach will oversee the development, organization, coordination, implementation, and interpretation of team activities and functions to ensure the team's success.

Requirements

  • Prior cheer coaching experience.
  • Exhibit high moral and ethical conduct and display a positive value system consistent with the codes and policies of CHS and the MHSAA as a role model and mentor for the student-athletes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the sport regarding athlete development.
  • Must be able to teach/convey the individual skillsets of the sport, and the team aspects to build and improve individual/team proficiency and success.
  • Display good judgment in dealing with parents, team, administration, and the community.
  • Display good team-building skills within these groups.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the time commitment/availability level of the position.
  • Fulfill CPS and MHSAA requirements upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior varsity coaching experience in an educational environment.
  • Cheer experience at least at the varsity high school level (post-HS experience a plus).
  • Demonstrated proficiency and success in developing athlete skillsets, building team chemistry, and forming a successful cheer program.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and success with problem resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and success in creating and effectively delegating responsibilities to any assistant coaching staff, with goals consistent with the varsity program.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, supervise, and evaluate matters pertaining to Centreville’s cheer program.
  • Ensure the team's success through development, organization, coordination, implementation, and interpretation of team activities and functions.
  • Teach and convey individual skillsets of the sport and team aspects to build and improve individual/team proficiency and success.
  • Develop a program immersed in the vision of the athletic department, focusing on developing the student-athlete as a whole.
  • Communicate and work effectively with district coaches, staff members, and the athletic director.
  • Demonstrate the time commitment/availability level of the position.
  • Fulfill CPS and MHSAA requirements upon hire.
  • Maximize team needs/wants list for equipment within the school budget.
  • Make reasonable recommendations to the AD for facility/equipment needs, maintenance/repairs, etc.
