Vacuum Chamber Technician B - 2nd Shift

GKN Aerospace•Garden Grove, CA
•$28 - $46•Onsite

About The Position

The Vacuum Chamber Technician B provides safe, reliable maintenance and production-support services for vacuum chambers and associated assets across GKN Aerospace’s Garden Grove site. The role maintains and restores pumps, gauges, compressors, power supplies, heater assemblies, controls, instrumentation, and related mechanical and electrical systems through preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment recovery, inspections, disciplined shift handoffs, and documented CMMS closeout. The position works the second shift, from 1:45 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. The technician responds to equipment issues, diagnoses faults using technical documentation and approved diagnostic instruments, and performs assigned preventive, predictive, inspection, and corrective work. The role uses Maintenance Connection or a comparable CMMS to document work and coordinate parts and tooling needs. It also coordinates equipment status and safe return-to-service with production and supervisors, and contributes to shift handoffs, training, root-cause investigations, PM improvements, commissioning, and knowledge transfer. The position requires compliance with site and regulatory safety requirements, including lockout/tagout, electrical safety, confined-space, respirator, chemical-handling, cleanroom, permit, PPE, and machine-guarding controls. The technician must be able to pass a Pulmonary Function Test, wear a respirator and cleanroom garments, lift more than 50 pounds, and work in confined spaces and on uneven surfaces.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years of experience as an Electrician A or equivalent industrial maintenance experience demonstrating both electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capability, subject to applicable classification and labor-agreement requirements.
  • Working proficiency in Maintenance Connection or a comparable CMMS, including reviewing assigned work, documenting labor and parts, recording findings, and writing useful closeout notes.
  • Working knowledge of vacuum-system fundamentals and components, industrial electrical systems, controls, instrumentation, and PLC-based equipment interfaces.
  • Ability to pass a Pulmonary Function Test.
  • Ability to work while wearing a respirator and necessary cleanroom garments, and to adhere to strict cleanroom protocol.
  • Ability to work safely around department chemicals using required engineering controls, procedures, PPE, and respiratory protection, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
  • Ability to lift more than 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and on uneven surfaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree, technical certificate, apprenticeship, or equivalent formal training in industrial maintenance, electrical technology, controls, vacuum technology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with ASI vacuum systems or comparable chamber, autoclave, vacuum-pump, and process-control equipment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and digital maintenance documentation.
  • Applied math skills for electrical, vacuum, pressure, temperature, measurement, and troubleshooting calculations.
  • Experience with cleanroom practices, chemical handling, leak detection, vacuum instrumentation, heater controls, or equipment commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Safely troubleshoot, restore, and escalate issues involving vacuum chambers and associated mechanical, electrical, heating, cooling, pneumatic, and control systems.
  • Use technical manuals, schematics, drawings, diagrams, equipment history, OEM documentation, and approved diagnostic tools to identify faults and assess equipment performance.
  • Perform assigned preventive, predictive, inspection, and corrective maintenance according to approved procedures, job plans, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Execute vacuum-chamber preventive maintenance across the site, protect scheduled PM windows, document exceptions, and support recovery plans for missed or incomplete work.
  • Use Maintenance Connection as the system of record for assigned work, labor, parts, findings, failure information, follow-up actions, and closeout notes.
  • Identify parts and tooling needs, coordinate with Maintenance Stores and Spares, and escalate critical-spares risks while following approved purchasing and inventory processes.
  • Coordinate equipment status, operating constraints, safe recovery, and return-to-service with production and supervisory personnel; provide approved operator guidance.
  • Participate in shift handoffs, tiered daily management, technical training, root-cause investigations, PM improvement, commissioning, and knowledge transfer for new or modified equipment.
  • Follow applicable safety, cleanroom, chemical-handling, permit, PPE, and regulatory requirements, and stop and escalate work when controls are unclear or conditions are unsafe.

Benefits

  • Training opportunities.
