About The Position

Western National Insurance is seeking a UX Intern to join our Product Engineering team as part of the Summer 2027 Internship Program. Our company growth, combined with our focus on innovation, transformation, and investments in the customer experience are key drivers supporting the expansion of our team. The UX Intern will provide support to a variety of projects and initiatives, while playing a key role in our day-to-day operations. The individual in this role will have the opportunity to directly assist the Product Engineering team with a wide range of projects, including collaborating on the user design, research and product design of our agent portal. Western National provides a robust internship program designed for individuals aiming to acquire valuable experience in the insurance industry. This program not only offers practical, hands-on opportunities and project work in partnership with our Product Engineering team; but interns will also have the opportunity to enhance their existing skill sets through a range of professional development activities, cultivate relationships with employees and fellow interns, and participate in impactful volunteer initiatives within the community.

Requirements

  • Senior-level undergraduate or graduate student studying UX design, human-computer interaction, interaction design, information architecture, psychology, or a related field.
  • Prior experience with UX design, user research, product design, or interaction design.
  • Experience creating wireframes, prototypes, user flows, journey maps, or similar UX artifacts; familiarity with Figma or a comparable design tool.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a portfolio demonstrating UX thinking, research, or design work.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews, usability testing, surveys, and other research to understand agent needs.
  • Evaluate workflows, navigation, content, accessibility, responsive design, and visual consistency across current agent portals.
  • Identify opportunities to create a more unified experience across agent portals and connected applications.
  • Create user flows, journey maps, wireframes, prototypes, and other UX artifacts.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, QA, and business stakeholders to turn feedback into actionable designs and recommendations.
  • Present findings and document reusable UX patterns that support a future unified agent portal experience.

Benefits

  • The base pay offered for this position will be $20.00/hour.
