About The Position

At DI, digital experiences don't always live on a laptop or phone. They can become part of a museum exhibit, sports venue, healthcare environment, entertainment destination or immersive branded space. As a UI/UX Design Intern, you'll join DI's Creative Studio while working closely with our Creative Technology, software development and engineering teams to help design intuitive, engaging digital experiences for real client projects. You'll explore the entire user-centered design process—from research and early concepts to journey mapping, visual storytelling, detailed interface design and interactive prototypes in Figma. Most importantly, you'll learn to think beyond what a screen looks like and consider how a person will actually experience it within the larger physical environment.

Requirements

• A strong interest in UI/UX, interaction design and user-centered design
• Experience using Figma for interface design, wireframing or prototyping
• Strong visual design and visual storytelling skills
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop
• An interest in user research, journey mapping and understanding how people interact with technology
• Strong conceptual thinking and creative problem-solving skills
• Curiosity about emerging technology, design trends and popular culture
• A collaborative mindset and interest in working with both creative and technical teams
• The ability to adapt and "go where needed" in a fast-moving creative environment
• Comfort experimenting, receiving feedback, iterating and trying again
• Strong communication, organization and attention to detail
• Students pursuing UI/UX Design, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design or a related field are encouraged to apply.
• A portfolio is required to be considered for the UI/UX Design Internship. Academic projects, personal projects, internships, design challenges and other work that demonstrates your approach to UI/UX and visual design are all welcome.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with motion, 3D design or tools such as After Effects or SketchUp is a plus

Responsibilities

• Contribute UI/UX design thinking to real DI client projects
• Help develop user experiences for interactive installations and digital experiences
• Create user flows, journey maps, wireframes and interactive prototypes using Figma
• Explore concepts through research, sketching, visual storytelling and rapid iteration
• Develop detailed user interface designs that balance usability, visual design and the overall experience
• Help communicate concepts through compelling visual storytelling and project presentations
• Participate in user-centered design activities and discussions
• Gather inspiration and build visual vocabularies to help guide creative direction
• Conduct market, audience and design research to inform project decisions
• Contribute to conceptual design, design detailing and branding as appropriate
• Collaborate closely with designers, software developers, Creative Technology and engineering teams
• Participate in critiques, project meetings and design reviews
• Stay curious about emerging trends, technology, culture and how people interact with digital experiences
