About The Position

The UX/UI Designer supports the Digital Services team by creating simple, intuitive, and accessible digital government services. This role participates in user research, translates insights into digital interactions, and develops design artifacts such as personas, workflows, wireframes, and prototypes. The designer visually designs user interfaces and graphics, collaborates closely with the Lead UX Designer and agency partners, and helps advance human‑centered design practices across City government. Passion for civic government and design. Curiosity and commitment to improving local government services. Basic knowledge of UI/UX frameworks. Understanding of human‑centered design. Experience using peer research to inform design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree.
  • One year of related specialty IT experience (for example, but not limited to: system engineering, network engineering, information security, application programming, systems design, hierarchical/relational database management, GIS experience, custom report writing, or developing and supporting cloud-based software integrations).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced technical credentials may be substituted for six months of experience or education.
  • Multiple certifications may receive additional credit towards education/experience.
  • Education must be obtained from an accredited institution.
  • Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous IT work lead experience is preferred.
  • Previous IT experience in government is preferred.
  • Advanced technical credentials, e.g., Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), preferred.
  • Ability to work in fast‑paced environments.
  • Experience creating UI mock‑ups or prototypes.
  • Background in service design.
  • Experience collaborating with developers or technical teams.
  • Experience facilitating groups.
  • BA/MA (completed or in progress) in UX/UI design, service design, graphic design, I/O psychology, or related field.
