About The Position
Knoxville Center for Behavioral Medicine is seeking an experienced Utilization Management Coordinator to support inpatient and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) services. The role focuses on insurance authorizations, concurrent reviews, and payer requirements, with close collaboration with clinical teams to help patients access care and support positive outcomes. The hospital serves adults and geriatric patients and partners with NHC, Tennova Healthcare, and The University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Requirements
- Utilization Management experience in a healthcare or behavioral health setting.
- Knowledge of insurance benefits, medical necessity criteria, and payer requirements.
- Strong organization, communication, and time-management skills.
- Experience with EHR systems and authorization portals.
- High school diploma.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or another clinical degree preferred.
- Behavioral Health experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with inpatient behavioral health and/or IOP authorizations preferred.
Responsibilities
- Verify insurance benefits and obtain authorizations.
- Manage concurrent reviews and communicate with payers.
- Submit clinical information to support continued treatment.
- Track approvals, review dates, and authorization requirements.
- Assist with denials, peer-to-peer reviews, and follow-up.
- Maintain accurate documentation and compliance standards.
