About The Position

Utility Workers perform and assist with manual labor in operating districts throughout the Central Hudson service territory. This individual-contributor role is considered a feeder position for union positions such as power line technician, gas mechanic, and electrician. Under general supervision and as assigned, Utility Workers assist employees of all classifications and perform manual and laboring work. All incumbents start at the same pay rate under the collective bargaining agreement. The pay rate is $32.17 to $33.87 per hour. Applications are accepted until November 6, 2026.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency degree.
Ability to lift and handle heavy materials, follow instructions, and work with little supervision.
Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
Ability to perform simple clerical work.
Valid driver’s license.
Candidates who do not have a Class A CDL must obtain one upon employment.

Nice To Haves

Technical schooling and/or related electrical or mechanical experience.
Class A CDL.

Responsibilities

Assist employees of all classifications in performing their work.
Handle materials, tools, and equipment.
Load and unload trucks.
Drive cars and trucks.
Cut grass and brush; cut ice and shovel snow.
Sweep and clean.
Perform tasks such as raking racks, scraping paint, digging, trenching, backfilling, shoveling, lifting, carrying, flagging, and traffic control.
Operate equipment not specifically limited to operation by higher-classified employees.
Perform simple clerical work.
