About The Position

EPCOR is hiring a full-time, permanent Utility Worker I, II, or III to join our dedicated Utility Department in Clovis, NM. This is more than just a job — it’s a chance to be part of a team that keeps essential services running smoothly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Basic computer literacy required; ability to complete service orders and reports accurately using Microsoft Word, Excel, and customer information systems.
  • Knowledge of water distribution, including related tools, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, service orders, maintenance manuals, meters, and charts.
  • Strong physical capability to perform heavy manual labor, including lifting up to 70 lbs., working in confined spaces, and tolerating extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles and utility equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, valve exercisers, and mini- vactor units.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with internal and external customers.
  • Flexibility to work independently and respond to callouts, overtime, weekends, and holiday emergencies.
  • Familiarity with drinking water rules and regulations; ability to perform standardized water quality tests.
  • All levels require a valid New Mexico driver's license.
  • Utility Worker-in-Training: Must be able to obtain Level 1 NMED certifications in Water Distribution within 6 months of hire date.
  • Utility Worker-in-Training: Class A CDL License required with Tanker & Hazmat endorsements or the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire date.
  • Utility Worker I: Level 1 NMED certifications in Water Distribution.
  • Utility Worker I: Class A CDL License required with Tanker & Hazmat endorsements.
  • Utility Worker II: Level 2 NMED certifications in Water Distribution.
  • Utility Worker II: One (1) year of qualifying work experience in water distribution.
  • Utility Worker II: Class A CDL License required with Tanker & Hazmat endorsements.
  • Utility Worker III: Level 3 NMED certifications in Water Distribution.
  • Utility Worker III: Two years of qualifying work experience in water distribution.
  • Utility Worker III: Class A CDL License required with Tanker & Hazmat endorsements.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old and legally entitled to work in United States.
  • Background checks and assessments may be required.
  • If you are considered for the position, clearance on all applicable background checks (which may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit) and professional reference checks is required.
  • Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law.
  • These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.
  • A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
  • To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions.
  • Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain fire hydrants, main line valves, water service lines, water mains, water meters and fittings.
  • Install new water services, conduct water system flushing, water quality sampling, flow testing, and traffic control.
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities, e.g., valve exercising and fire hydrant inspections.
  • Install, maintain, and repair wastewater collection systems including sewer laterals, mains, taps, main cleaning and clearing blockages, roach control, and raises/lowers/repairs of manholes.
  • Provide assistance to Field Service Representative, meter reading, and line locating when needed to backfill due to absences.
  • Perform other work as required.
