About The Position

We are currently looking for a Utility Worker II (Shift) for a 11-month term as part of the Nova Scotia Power Line Inspector Program in Port Hawkesbury. As a member of the Reliability Implementation team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient condition assessment of Nova Scotia’s Energy Delivery System. Regular travel to and from Transmission access points. You will also be required to maintain communications to the control authority. Reactive corrective damage assessment and relay access points to the field project leads to coordinate the response for repair. Preventative maintenance duties for off highway vehicles or company vehicles (pre-trips), environmental maintenance and control. You may be temporarily assigned to other locations to assist other areas when required and will be expected to travel throughout the province. You will be required to take training courses such as in-house safety, environmental, vehicle operation and other training courses related to your position. You must be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills. You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives. You will demonstrate your knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and your responsibilities under the Act. You will take a very proactive approach to Safety in Regional Operations and will demonstrate your commitment to the Risk Assessment Process consistently. Your primary residence must be located within 30 minutes of headquarters, and you may be required to respond to emergency after hour situations. This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

Requirements

  • A Grade XII education or equivalent, with reading and writing skills necessary to safely and effectively perform the duties of the position.
  • Able to perform heavy labor duties with demonstrated skills in general plant and/or coal system cleanliness requirements.
  • Familiar with and capable of using common hand and power tools in the course of the day-to-day work.
  • Self-motivated and having the ability to get along well with others and work with minimum supervision.
  • Hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License with a minimum of two years driving experience.
  • Provide a driver's abstract satisfactory to NSPI.
  • Capable of working in a variety of confined spaces using all appropriate personal protective equipment and other safety devices.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong environmental awareness and dedication, with particular understanding and experience with recycling requirements and standards.
  • Demonstrated experience with or certification in staging erection and/or vacuum truck operation.
