About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) enhances the quality of life in Denver by delivering public infrastructure and services. DOTI is committed to equity and focuses on areas of greatest need. The Division of Transportation Operations manages the performance of transportation infrastructure, including curbside management, traffic signals, signs and markings, and system operations. As a Utility Worker II, you will work on a Heavy Construction Signals team or a Signs and Markings team, performing semi-skilled and physical labor on construction, maintenance, and repair projects. You will operate light motorized equipment and hand/power tools, assist Equipment Operators, and cross-train with Signal Techs and Equipment Operators. You will also operate heavy equipment after obtaining a CDL, place traffic control devices, and participate in snow removal.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience performing unskilled labor work
  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application
  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements within six (6) months of employment and must be kept current as a condition of employment
  • By position, requires a CDL Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of hire
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment

Responsibilities

  • Work on a Heavy Construction Signals team or a Signs and Markings team
  • Perform semi-skilled and light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects
  • Operation of light weight motorized equipment and hand and power tools
  • Assist with general labor, safety, and related work tasks on a crew with Equipment Operators
  • Cross Train with Signal Techs and Equipment Operators
  • Operate equipment such as box truck, auger truck, dump trucks, Mini Excavators and other heavy equipment after CDL is obtained
  • Place and remove barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirements
  • Participate in snow removal duties
