About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is responsible for enhancing the quality of life in Denver by delivering public infrastructure and services. The Street Maintenance division within DOTI focuses on keeping Denver’s streets and alleys safe, clean, and reliable year-round. This includes services such as pothole repair, milling, paving, patching, alley maintenance, street sweeping, and operating Denver’s asphalt plant. The division also manages Denver's citywide snow response program. The Street Maintenance team is currently hiring Utility Worker II's to contribute to the maintenance and improvement of Denver’s streets, alleys, and transportation network.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of city of Denver streets/alleys and use of maps.
  • Have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Willingness to work in inclement weather, road environments, dust, fumes, etc.
  • Desire to follow a career path and promote to other positions within the department, such as Equipment Operator I, Equipment Operator II, etc. (We provide on the job training!).
  • Applicants for commercial driving positions must demonstrate proficiency in the English language.
  • Commercial drivers must be able to do the following in English: Converse with the general public, Understand highway traffic signs and signals, Respond to official inquiries, Make entries on reports and records.
  • One (1) year of experience performing unskilled labor work.
  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements within six (6) months of employment and must be kept current as a condition of employment.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Some or all of the following experience, skills, and characteristics: Knowledge of city of Denver streets/alleys and use of maps.

Responsibilities

  • Perform semi-skilled and light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects.
  • Operation of light weight motorized equipment and hand and power tools.
  • Assist with general labor, safety, and related work tasks on a crew with Equipment Operators.
  • Patch asphalt and paved areas.
  • Place and remove barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirements.
  • Participate in snow removal duties.
