About The Position

The Utility Worker II performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance, repair, and improvement of City streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, rights-of-way, parks, stormwater infrastructure, and other Public Works facilities. Operates a variety of light and medium construction equipment and assists with utility maintenance activities, including storm sewer inspections using specialized camera equipment. This position may serve as a lead worker on assigned projects by providing guidance and training to less experienced employees. Employees may be required to work irregular hours, weekends, holidays, or respond to emergency call-outs as operational needs require.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying materials, kneeling, crouching and bending; pushing, pulling and reaching; and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL).
  • Knowledge in use of excavation equipment

Responsibilities

  • Excavates trenches and work areas using hand tools and construction equipment while maintaining proper grades and elevations.
  • Installs, repairs, and replaces storm drainage pipes, culverts, inlets, manholes, and related infrastructure.
  • Repairs potholes, patches asphalt and concrete surfaces, and performs roadway maintenance.
  • Cleans, repairs, and maintains storm drains, drainage channels, and culverts to ensure proper water flow.
  • Installs, assembles, and removes barricades, traffic control devices, trench boxes, shoring systems, and safety equipment.
  • Assists with emergency response activities, including flooding, storm damage, roadway hazards, and other Public Works emergencies.
  • Responds to after-hours call-outs, emergency repairs, and severe weather events as required.
  • Must have and maintain, without interruption, required certifications and licenses.
  • Works assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
