About The Position

The Utility Worker I performs manual tasks involved in the maintenance and construction of streets, walkways, parks, lawns, ditches, storm sewers, and/or sewage plants. This role can involve working on concrete crews, asphalt crews, jet truck, or camera crews, focusing on building, repairing, clearing, and televising streets and drainage. Some positions may require performing other essential functions depending on the work location, assignment, or shift, and may involve working irregular hours, shifts, holidays, weekends, and call outs.

Requirements

• Valid Texas Class C driver's license and good driving record.
• Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying materials, kneeling, crouching and bending; pushing, pulling and reaching; and standing for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements.
• Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policy.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge or experience in construction trades such as concrete work, pipe work or general labor.
• Traffic Control I (Flagging)

Responsibilities

• Prepare concrete sites by digging manually.
• Build forms for concrete by measuring, cutting, nailing, and leveling wood.
• Tie rebar before pouring concrete.
• Spread and level sand or rock.
• Rake, troll, edge, and float concrete.
• Assemble and disassemble wooden forms.
• Backfill work areas.
• Repair streets by installing asphalt.
• Clean storm sewers, drains, and culverts.
• Shovel and rake asphalt until smooth.
• Oil and temper streets and prep them for asphalt overlay.
• Film storm sewers and drains to determine the status of lines.
• Hoist cameras into storm sewers and photograph drain lines.
