Primary Purpose To perform advanced level and regulatory compliant operations for water and/or wastewater systems under the jurisdiction of the Santa Fe County to serve its customers and the public. Essential Job Functions Perform duties of advanced complexity in connection with the general and specialized operations of water treatment, water storage and distribution, pump stations, biological and chemical treatment of wastewater, treated effluent disposal and reuse. Perform tasks of advanced complexity associated with the water operations, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of equipment, such as pumps, generators, pressurized vessels, blowers and compressors, metering devices. Monitoring of chemical water treatment and biological wastewater treatment systems. Adjust flow rates, monitor and adjust chemical doses, operate and troubleshoot pump controls, perform repairs on equipment and maintain clear and accurate records of activities and events. Perform advanced calculations to determine conditions associated with water treatment process and operations. Prepare water and wastewater compliance reports to be submitted to New Mexico Environmental Department. Perform advanced level customer service and relations in the field, interacting with technical support staff within and outside of Santa Fe County personnel. Perform advanced duties in connection collecting samples of water and wastewater, in accordance with standards procedures and regulatory requirements. Perform advanced laboratory testing on water and wastewater samples, interpret results, collect and interpret existing records, collect and interpret meter and gauge data, and maintain up to date operational logs. Under general supervision, monitors and perform operations related to applicable regulatory compliance. Maintain treatment plant work areas, grounds, equipment and tools, so that conditions are always conducive to a safe and health promoting environment. Report verbally and in writing about malfunctions, abnormalities and potential hazards associated with the daily operations of water and wastewater systems. Provide basic training to Utility Workers and lower-level operators about the general operations of water and wastewater systems Assessment of duties to be performed include cleaning and maintaining facilities. Perform inventory of equipment and tools, and report any losses, damage, or other conditions that may need department support. Perform mechanical work for preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment typically found in water and wastewater facilities. Operate road machinery and associated equipment used in day-to-day operations of water and wastewater. May act as a lead in critical and complex evaluations to resolve system operations. May make presentations to members of the public to support the public’s knowledge of water and wastewater systems May supervise or lead other team members as assigned. Performs work order as assigned.
