About The Position

The Utility System Supervisor, under the guidance of the Utility System Manager, performs a variety of skilled, technical, supervisory and administrative work in the planning, construction, operation, repair, maintenance and replacement of municipal wastewater collection and water distribution systems. As a representative of management, supports the mission, vision, strategic plan, goals and decisions of the department and City.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in a related field or equivalent years of experience in a related field required
  • Moderate experience with a minimum of three years’ in construction of public improvements, operation and maintenance of public utilities, or related fields
  • Must obtain Missouri DNR Distribution DSIII License or CWEA or equivalent within 36 months of employment
  • Must obtain ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor Certification within 12 months of employment
  • Must obtain Confined Space and Entry Certification within 12 months of employment
  • Must obtain Bridge Crane and Rigging Certification within 12 months of employment
  • Must obtain Trenching and Shoring Competent Person within 12 months of employment
  • Valid State issued driver’s license with acceptable driving history
  • Ability to create an ethical, non-discriminatory and safe work environment
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in waste water collection and water distribution systems
  • Considerable knowledge of sewer pipe installation and repair
  • Considerable knowledge of pump station operation and maintenance
  • Considerable knowledge of water pipe installation and repair
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, CIS, CityWorks, CityView, GIS and other software programs
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and written format with property owners, supervisors, employees and members of the general public
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional working relationships with a diverse group of customers
  • Ability to communicate, interact and function effectively under stressful and/or confrontational situations
  • Ability to analyze problems and identify workable solutions
  • Ability to guide, train, direct and motivate employees
  • Ability to organize and supervise the activities of others

Responsibilities

  • Supervises assigned Maintenance Workers and Equipment Operators.
  • Participates in the preparation, administration and monitoring of the Department budget.
  • Assist with inventory processes, training and development, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in providing reliable, safe, water and wastewater services that are compliant with regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction and expectations are met consistently.
