About The Position

American Engineering is seeking a Utility Superintendent to join our team. This role is responsible for overseeing field operations, ensuring safety compliance, managing subcontractors and vendors, and coordinating all aspects of utility installation projects.

Requirements

  • Review site and site conditions prior to mobilization to identify potential hazards or safety concerns.
  • Advise GS and PM accordingly.
  • Advise foreman and jobsite personnel accordingly.
  • Enforce safety regulations (OSHA/AEDC) and educate employees on policy.
  • Attend AEDC pre-construction meeting.
  • Review and be familiar with construction plans and specs.
  • Review and understand project utility scope.
  • Review and understand project schedule.
  • Review and understand project manual.
  • Review and understand Vendors.
  • Review and understand Subcontractors.
  • Review and understand Inspecting authorities.
  • Review Production requirements.
  • Schedule underground locations.
  • Log request and scheduled dates.
  • Log special conditions.
  • Evaluate need for soft dig conflict locations and advise GS and PM.
  • Attend review meeting with assigned PM.
  • Review installation sequence and commencement.
  • Review special conditions of contract.
  • Review Phasing.
  • Review Staging limitations.
  • Review Schedule requirements and milestones.
  • Attend pre-construction meeting with client.
  • Review mobilization date.
  • Review phasing if included in contract scope.
  • Review installation sequence.
  • Review construction access, work corridor and staging requirements required to facilitate our work.
  • Review testing and inspection process.
  • Review other trade interface.
  • Participate in crew selection and special manpower requirements.
  • Match crew to difficulty of installation.
  • Review material order and release sequence with Foreman.
  • Superintendent will order and release materials.
  • Superintendent will be accountable for over ordering of materials.
  • Schedule vendor and subcontractor sequencing.
  • Superintendent will order and release materials, vendors and subcontractors in accordance with the project manual designations and PM intervention.
  • POs issued by PM to identify vendors and subcontractors.
  • Schedule delivery of materials via dispatcher.
  • Schedule and supervise subcontractors.
  • Provide adequate notice to accommodate overall project schedule.
  • Coordinate equipment mobilization with GS and dispatcher.
  • Coordinate and schedule all survey stakeout.
  • Monitor and return all rental equipment and tools on a daily basis.
  • Request and retain copies of all permits.
  • Schedule and log all inspection requests and results with City, FDOT and Engineer.
  • Schedule and coordinate testing activities.
  • Pre-pressure testing and lamping to facilitate grading operations.
  • Schedule final testing activities with utility department and engineer.
  • Monitor crew performance and productivity.
  • Establish daily production milestones with foreman.
  • Review daily production quota with foreman.
  • Periodically walk the project with the foreman and inspect previous installations and plan for future installations.
  • Collect production reports weekly.
  • Consult with GS and PM if field production does not meet estimate.
  • Make personal contact with the client's project superintendent on a daily basis.
  • Discuss progress, short and long term schedule objectives.
  • Be proactive.... Think ahead!!!
  • Coordinate as-built data collection.
  • To include existing utilities encountered during installation of our work.
  • Coordinate and attend final inspections.
  • Coordinate and prosecute final punch list items.
  • Prepare accurate and timely production reports.
  • Prepare detailed T&M tickets and have them signed by GC on a daily basis.
  • Prepare accurate and correctly coded timesheets with detailed work descriptions and submit to payroll daily.
  • Prepare and process Action Forms well in advance of requested vacation time.
  • Review and respond to emails daily.

Responsibilities

  • Review and understand construction plans, specifications, project utility scope, schedule, and manual.
  • Schedule underground locations, log requests, and identify special conditions.
  • Evaluate the need for soft dig conflict locations and advise the General Superintendent (GS) and Project Manager (PM).
  • Review installation sequence, commencement, and special contract conditions (phasing, staging limitations, schedule requirements).
  • Review mobilization dates, phasing, installation sequence, construction access, work corridor, and staging requirements.
  • Review testing and inspection processes and coordinate with other trades (Plumber, Electrician, Irrigation, Fire sprinkler).
  • Participate in crew selection and identify special manpower requirements, matching crews to installation difficulty.
  • Review material order and release sequence with the Foreman; the Superintendent will order and release materials and be accountable for over-ordering.
  • Schedule vendor and subcontractor sequencing in accordance with project manual designations and PM intervention.
  • Schedule delivery of materials via dispatcher.
  • Schedule and supervise subcontractors, providing adequate notice to accommodate the overall project schedule.
