About The Position

The primary responsibility of this role is washing all restaurant dishes, glasses, utensils, and equipment to ensure a constant supply of clean dinnerware. The Utility Steward is also responsible for equipment maintenance and cleaning, ensuring that all stainless steel items and dishes are clean and grease-free. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and operational efficiency of the food service area.

Requirements

  • Customer service experience.
  • Needs to work with water and chemicals.
  • Needs to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Needs to read and understand product labels.
  • Needs to stand and/or walk for long periods; able to perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers; and able to lift and maneuver 50 lbs.
  • Effective communication skills - verbally able to provide instruction, responds to questions and has exceptional interpersonal skills and abilities.
  • Exhibits a professional demeanor through appearance and by maintaining a positive attitude toward all employees and guests.
  • Requires a criminal history background check.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months’ experience working as a dishwasher.
  • Licensed/certified as a food handler.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures customer satisfaction through prompt, efficient, and quality staff service.
  • Washes dishes, glassware, silverware, and ashtrays.
  • Restocks glassware, dishes, silverware, and ashtrays into racks and shelves.
  • Washes bus tubs and silverware holders, and keeps all racks and cup holders sanitary.
  • Scrapes off soil, rinses items, places them in the dishwasher, and washes some items by hand.
  • Performs daily maintenance of dishwasher equipment and reports any deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Continuously maintains the dishwasher and kitchen area to be clean and grease-free.
  • Assists with utility maintenance cleaning as directed during slow times.
  • Helps bussers lift bus trays to the dish area during peak times.
  • Takes clean dishes, silverware, and all glassware to the dining room as needed.
  • Promotes a clean, safe, healthy, and friendly work environment for employees and guests, promptly reporting all concerns to the Supervisor.
  • May function in a busser role during overload or staff shortage times.
  • Ensures compliance requirements are followed through regulatory laws, PP&P, department policies and procedures, codes, etc.
  • Participates and attends designated meetings, training, activities, etc., as directed.
  • Ensures operation of equipment, tools, materials, etc. are handled safely.
  • Promotes internal guest service standards by treating employees with courtesy and respect through a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned.
