About The Position

Performs semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance, repair and assists in the operation of a water treatment plant. Employee will be required to handle hazardous chemicals and may be in charge of the ground maintenance, janitorial, and compound security. The employee reports to Water / Wastewater Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Possesses a valid Florida Drivers License.
  • Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • In good physical condition and have ability to accept and understand directions.
  • Within one year must be CPR / AED qualified.
  • After probation, being available for on-call work as required.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.
  • Knowledge of use of simple hand and power tools.
  • Ability to learn streets and facility locations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by the work.
  • Ability to fill out reports and work orders with good penmanship.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to work independently in a diligent manner.
  • Walking, standing, pushing, bending, stooping, equipment operation and driving.
  • Working in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment may be required.
  • Working from heights, in dusty condition, with hands, feet, and/or legs in wastewater and may handle chemicals.
  • Lifting: > 75 Pounds
  • Vision: 20/20 or Corrected to 20/100
  • Hearing: Normal to very high noise levels

Responsibilities

  • Maintain irrigation systems.
  • Maintains daily logs and records.
  • Checks all equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance.
  • Performs minor laboratory work.
  • May operate equipment on occasion, such as tractor, trucks, pumps, and machinery.
  • Answers telephone calls and dispatches emergency crew.
  • Monitors and operates computers for alarms and proper operation of wells, water, and wastewater plants.
  • Able to perform shift work as assigned.
