About The Position

Plains is an industry-leading transportation and midstream provider specializing in transportation, storage, processing and marketing solutions for crude oil. Plains is looking for an organized and reliable Utility Person for our Empress Straddle Plant located approximately 120 km north of Medicine Hat, Alberta. The ideal candidate will excel in a team environment and contribute to the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the facility in accordance with company standards, policies and procedures. This is a temporary position for approximately 8 months. As a member of the Plains Empress North Operations Team, the successful candidate will report to the Maintenance Team Lead and participate in our Union.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 education required.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently or as a team member with minimal supervision
  • General computer knowledge
  • Permanent residency within 120 km of the Empress Facility is a condition of employment.
  • Compliance with the Company’s requirement to be clean shaven to ensure proper fit of emergency PPE.
  • The successful candidate must hold a valid Class 5 drivers license with a clean drivers abstract.
  • Ability to work in moderate to heavy physically demanding working conditions, including working outdoors in an open environment with extremes of heat and cold.
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country.
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.
  • Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates possessing 4th class power engineering or journeyman trade certification.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, with site related industrial experience, considered an asset
  • Familiarity with injection well and vacuum truck operations considered an asset
  • Experience in the oil/gas field considered an asset
  • Demonstrated heavy equipment operating experience considered an asset
  • Preference will be given to those who hold a Class 3A license.

Responsibilities

  • Operation of mobile equipment (skid steer, forklift, wheeled loader) for the purpose of moving material throughout site.
  • Performs assignments such as loading rail cars, monitoring product quality and measurement accuracy, and metering, sampling, and testing procedures.
  • Assist trades executing preventative and corrective maintenance tasks
  • Executing site safety checks (fire extinguishers, eyewash, SCBA etc)
  • Operation of vac truck transferring fluid throughout site
  • Assisting Operations with chemical offloads
  • Performing product quality testing in onsite lab
  • Manual labor – shoveling, painting, moving equipment/materials
