About The Position

This position reports to the Manufacturing Manager - NEMA. The Utility 17 Operator role is for the 2nd Shift. Utility Grade 17 employees must be able to perform functions such as Die Setter, Slit Line, Auto Press, Punch Press, Annealing Lead, and Crane operations safely and effectively. Essential Job Functions require the ability to perform tasks for a minimum of 8 hours per day, 5 days a week. ABB will discuss and attempt to provide reasonable accommodations if an employee is unable to perform these essential functions.

Requirements

  • Understand and follow all ABB safety policies, safety training, and hazard communication requirements.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, cut-resistant gloves, and safety sleeves when required.
  • Locate and verify Emergency Stops and light curtains function properly.
  • Verify Press Release Forms (QFSL-A001) are supervisor-signed before operation.
  • Work safely and report injuries, accidents, and near misses immediately.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently grip with hands, turn, push, and bend.
  • Occasionally reach above shoulder level and pull.
  • Walk and/or stand for extended periods and maintain pace with demanding production requirements.
  • Operate electric pallet trucks, cranes, and material handling equipment.
  • Possess dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate various hand tools, power tools, and equipment including electric chain hoists, pneumatic shears, pneumatic wire twisters, electric and manual pallet jacks, and press controls with knobs and buttons.
  • Assist in performing press-line equipment set-up and clearing die jams.
  • Perform equipment shutdown procedures and end-of-run die cleaning.
  • Perform quality inspections including visually inspecting parts for burrs, chips, slug marks, bent teeth, and missing features.
  • Inspect parts before continuous runs.
  • Conduct flatness checks three times per coil using back-to-back method.
  • Match parts to blueprints.
  • Verify inventory tags, coil numbers, and blueprints match work orders to ensure quality standards.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Read, write, and use a calculator.
  • Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, inventory tags, and shipping labels.
  • Complete required documentation including Non-Con Red Tags for defective material.
  • Follow established procedures and work instructions.
  • Maintain regular work attendance including arriving on time and remaining at work until end of scheduled workday.
  • Demonstrate reliability and commitment to scheduled work hours.
  • Ability to work daily and weekend overtime, including overtime on short notice, to meet production demands.
