About The Position

At Fort McKay Group of Companies LP, the Utility Operator is responsible for operating equipment safely, productively, and efficiently on a Civil Construction worksite, adhering to project scope and work requirements. The role involves maintaining equipment cleanliness, performing basic maintenance, and complying with all operational policies and procedures. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring pre-employment/pre-access testing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required
  • Retention of a valid class five (5) driver’s license and clean three (3) year drivers abstract is required
  • At least 2+ years of verifiable experience in an equipment operating role in a Civil Construction, Earthworks, or Utility environment.
  • Must be able to operate: Truck (777), Wiggle Wagons, Excavators (470 - 870), Dozer (D6- D10), Grader (16M)
  • CSO or BSO or OSSA is required.
  • Ability to speak, write and read English is required
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada

Nice To Haves

  • College or industry courses in heavy equipment operating is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of equipment to move or displace earth, rock, gravel, or other materials during construction related activities in a safe, productive, and efficient manner.
  • Conduct pre-operational and post-operational checks on equipment, keep equipment clean, and perform any basic maintenance or troubleshooting as required.
  • Accept instructions from the Team Lead and/or Shift Supervisor as directed, and adjust work and strategy according to changing conditions, policies, and procedures as needed.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings, provide suggestions for improvement and safety.
  • Advise Team Lead or Shift Supervisor of any required maintenance or repairs of the equipment.
  • Maintain a safe disposition at all times, ensure the safety of the client site and more importantly, the safety of fellow personnel/drivers.
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, and requirements as laid out by the client at all times while on the worksite.
