Job Summary: The Utility Operator supports warehouse operations by accurately picking, staging, rotating, loading, unloading, and transporting inventory and trailers in accordance with HP Hood, SQF, DOT, OSHA, and safety standards. The role requires operating in a fast-paced warehouse environment, using voice/wireless headset systems, following FIFO procedures, performing vehicle and trailer safety checks, maintaining product quality, removing damaged goods, keeping work areas and trucks clean and safe, and assisting with yard vehicle movement and other assigned duties. Schedule: 9:00am to 5:30pm; Sunday and one rotating day off. Must be able to work any 5 days per week on a Sunday through Saturday schedule including holidays and additional days as needed for coverage . Must be available to cover call ins, overtime, and short notice requests to support critical situations. This role also provides coverage for full-time employees during vacations and assists during period of new hire onboarding and training.

Requirements

  • Must have High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • Excellent hand/foot-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Good basic math and reading skills.
  • Good oral communication and human relations skills.
  • Constant (100% of time): Walk, Stand for long periods (up to 8 hours), Refrigerated and non-refrigerated areas with temperature variations from 34-85 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Frequently (up to 66% of time): Push& Pull up to approximately 200lbs of drag weight with hook without assistance, Lift heavy loads up to 50lbs, Bending, Twisting, & Stretching, Exposure to all weather conditions
  • Occasionally (up to 33% of time): Push & Pull wheeled weight up to approximately 1000lbs, Lift heavy loads (up to 100 lbs.), Sitting: only when assigned to operate vehicles, forklifts, or similar equipment, Squat/Kneel/Climb, Ability to work with arms outstretched to the front, Pushing/pulling under 75 lbs. without assistance frequently

Responsibilities

  • Accurately identify, select/pick, and send corrugated and non-corrugated inventory using wireless headset system.
  • Manually remove product from conveyor system, stage, and rotate product following FIFO (first in, first out) methods in an efficient manner to maintain production flow requirements.
  • Push/Pull stacks of milk cases with repetition.
  • Load trucks according to HP Hood standards while reviewing load instructions to verify that the correct product(s) are loaded into assigned trailers.
  • Maintain a pace of work that is safe and efficient while meeting team expectations.
  • Maintain a clean & safe work environment, including interior of truck.
  • Responsible for unloading trucks and trailers using a hook or pallet jack and washing trailers/trucks after unloading empty cases.
  • Receives finished products and production materials following SQF guidelines.
  • Continuously check for and remove damaged goods to ensure that only quality products are being shipped to customers and ensure proper disposal of damaged goods.
  • Complete walk-around safety checks of all vehicles to include wheels, doors, checking reefer units (on/off), load bars and more.
  • Complete each route by loading bi-products into the trailer and placing a seal to secure/finalize the order.
  • Maintain a clean & safe work environment.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Able to assign work using Voice Picking System.
  • Local vehicle operations involving position and moving trucks and trailers on and between warehousing facilities.
  • Maintain all required certifications required by DOT and OSHA and company safety programs
  • Operates vehicle at all times in a safe and efficient manner, abiding by all Federal, State and Local laws.
  • Transports trailers in the yard
  • Maintaining food safety and food quality through completing job tasks and maintaining the work area in a sanitary manner.
  • Comply with SQF forms by conducting routine temperature checks and ensure that all trailers containing product/material are sealed.
  • Through the monitoring of incoming goods.
  • Maintaining the food legislation requirements.
  • Serves as a backup for other shippers/receivers and their duties.
