About The Position

This position operates various types of heavy equipment in the inspection, cleaning, and general maintenance of the City’s storm water drainage. Oversees utility workers or a small work crew and performs considerable manual labor with the crew as needed. This position will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime as necessary by the department, and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED required.
  • Three (3) years experience in utility/storm drainage construction, or maintenance, or similar type work preferred.
  • Completion of 16 hours training in traffic and barricading procedures during probationary year.
  • Valid Texas Class A CDL is required.
  • This position must be available to work on a rotating shift including nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather.
  • This position is considered weather essential personnel.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is a requirement of this position.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers.
  • Ability to work in undesirable conditions and inclement weather.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces using recovery equipment and following safety procedures.
  • Ability to use and/or operate, and/or learn to use and operate storm sewer pipe cleaning/maintenance/repair methods and equipment, light and medium equipment and trucks, i.e., 12 yard dump truck, etc.
  • Ability to use hand tools, both power and manual.
  • Working knowledge of traffic control devices and their applications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance to and cleaning of storm sewer drainage systems.
  • Enters confined spaces, when necessary, to inspect piping systems, retrieve camera equipment, remove large debris, perform general maintenance to storm sewer drainage system, etc.
  • Complies with occupational safety rules and practices, and the application of standard work zone traffic control procedures.
  • Calculates material quantities necessary for job completion.
  • Obtains all supplies necessary for day's work assignment.
  • Properly completes daily job reports.
  • Supervises utility worker, and on occasion, small work crew.
  • Responds to 24-hour emergency callouts.
  • Performs manual labor when necessary to assist in the performance of various tasks or other duties as assigned.
  • Capture and record progression of projects utilizing electronic devices.
  • Operates other equipment or trucks, such as 12 cubic yard dump truck, backhoe, volumetric mixer truck, etc.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
