About The Position

The Infrastructure Department is seeking a motivated permanent, full-time Operator to become a valued member of the Roads and Drainage team. Reporting to the Team Lead of Roads and drainage, the Operator is responsible for maintaining various municipal infrastructures such as roadways, trails, sidewalks, drainage infrastructure, culverts, signage, fleet, cemetery, traffic control and more. We are searching for an individual who is dedicated to providing excellent service, possesses exceptional communication skills, and prioritizes safety above all else.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years of experience in municipal infrastructure maintenance, specifically related to roadways, trails, and drainage systems or 3 to 5 years’ experience with heavy equipment and knowledge of different types of construction (I.e. Asphalt, Concrete, Culvert installation, Catch basin)
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other safety regulations, guidelines, standards, and best practices
  • Applicable training: Confined Space Certificate, H2S Alive Certificate, Standard Level C First Aid and CPR, and WHMIS training
  • Valid Class 3 with Q endorsement Driver's License (Class 5 with air brakes may be considered)
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and database management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, technical abilities, and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Cityworks or any other service request tracking software is beneficial
  • Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate
  • Be available to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Meet the physical requirements that includes lifting heavy equipment and materials up to 23 kilograms (50 lbs.), ability to stand or sit for long periods, and the ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Provide a clean criminal record check and a driver's abstract that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behavior
  • Adhere to all safety standards and promote the organization's health and safety program
  • Collaborate effectively with the Operations team, management, and other city departments
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with internal personnel, external stakeholders, and the residents of Beaumont

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and upkeep of municipal infrastructure and assets
  • Operating and maintaining a variety of equipment, including but not limited to: tool-cats, skid steers, trail/sidewalk machines, plow trucks, graders, backhoes, and front-end loaders
  • Cleaning, lubricating, and refueling equipment, as well as loading and unloading it
  • Installing, removing, and repairing traffic signs
  • Conducting daily inspections and documenting the condition of infrastructure and assets through Cityworks software
  • Providing exceptional customer service to stakeholders and residents
  • Adhering to all health and safety policies and procedures
  • Providing guidance and supervising third-party contractors
  • Offering expert recommendations and advice to others to aid decision-making
  • Supporting and assisting other service areas when necessary
  • Performing other duties as assigned
