About The Position

The Utility Mechanic is responsible for supporting plumbing, utility, construction, and equipment operations by maintaining, repairing, installing, and troubleshooting mechanical systems, tools, vehicles, and equipment used in daily field operations. This position works closely with plumbers, utility crews, foremen, and management to keep equipment and jobsite operations safe, reliable, and productive.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a mechanic, equipment mechanic, utility mechanic, plumber, maintenance technician, or related position preferred.
  • Knowledge of construction and utility equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and diagnostics.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and mechanical tools.
  • Ability to read equipment manuals, service information, and basic construction or utility plans.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a field crew.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Plumbing or underground utility experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on company equipment, vehicles, pumps, generators, compressors, and other mechanical systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and plumbing-related equipment problems.
  • Maintain and repair excavators, skid steers, trenching equipment, pumps, generators, trailers, and other utility equipment as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to reduce equipment downtime and extend service life.
  • Assist field crews with installation, repair, and maintenance of water, sewer, drainage, and plumbing utility systems.
  • Troubleshoot pumps, valves, piping systems, motors, and related components.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, cutting, and basic machining when necessary.
  • Inspect equipment before and after use and report safety or mechanical concerns.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, parts, and equipment condition.
  • Coordinate with foremen and project managers regarding equipment needs and repairs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and work area.
  • Operate company vehicles and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Assist with emergency repairs and respond to equipment breakdowns in the field when required.
  • Follow OSHA requirements, company safety policies, and manufacturer maintenance procedures.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
