About The Position

Lake Superior Consulting (LSC) is seeking multiple Utility Locators to join their growing team. This role is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who thrive in challenging environments and enjoy independent fieldwork. The primary responsibility is to accurately locate and mark underground utilities such as cables and pipes to prevent damage during excavation projects. These are full-time, daytime positions that require overtime, and some weekend work is expected. LSC emphasizes quality and safety, seeking individuals with strong physical endurance and the ability to work in tough conditions. The company offers training for those with no prior experience and provides opportunities for advancement.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older due to driver policy
  • High School Diploma required
  • Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Physical stamina to walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. in challenging environments
  • Available to work overtime and weekends as needed, handling the physical demands of extended hours.
  • Availability to participate in on-call rotation
  • Valid driver’s license required and a safe driving record
  • Capability to operate a company vehicle and use general hand/power tools
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces.
  • Able to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities.
  • Must have strong critical thinking, organizational, problem solving, and troubleshooting abilities
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to interact clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners.
  • Commitment to working safely and producing high quality, ethical service
  • Comfortable with utilizing a laptop, Microsoft Office programs and cell phone

Nice To Haves

  • Previous outdoor experience is a plus
  • Prior utility locating experience is a plus, but we are willing to train

Responsibilities

  • Respond to locate requests within legal time limit
  • Mark found utilities using proper coloring system (APWA marking standards)
  • Read and interpret utility maps/prints to identify the size and type of underground utility.
  • Complete required paperwork for locates and line crossings/excavations
  • Work safely by adhering to LSC and client guidelines and procedures
  • Communicate work scopes and responsibilities amongst project specific field-based teams
  • Complete and maintain operator qualifications (OQs)
  • Operate and use electronic locating equipment
  • Gather data, prepare records and reports in a timely manner
  • Perform daily safety meetings and submit daily report documentations
  • Generate and gather equipment for kickoffs of projects
  • Ensure your work is utilized with respect to company goals
  • Document and report any incidents, near misses, and opportunities for improvement
  • Work in compliance with all technical procedures and guidelines
  • Be available for on-call rotation
