About The Position

Under general supervision, this role involves supervising, coordinating, overseeing, leading, and performing repairs on water wells, booster pumps, and/or water or wastewater plant treatment equipment throughout El Paso Water. The position requires hands-on maintenance tasks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing both internal staff and external contractors.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma, GED or higher.
  • Five (5) years of experience in construction, maintenance or repair of water wells or pumping stations or maintenance of various treatment equipment used at a water or wastewater plant.
  • Two (2) years lead work or supervisory experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Some positions will require a Class "D" Water Operations License issued by the State of Texas within one (1) year after appointment.
  • Some positions will require a Class "C" Water Operators License issued by the State of Texas required within two and a half (2.5) years of appointment.
  • A valid Texas Driver's License.
  • A Commercial Driver's License Class A or B will be required within six (6) months after appointment.
  • A HAZMAT endorsement on some positions.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and oversee water well and booster pump, water or wastewater plant treatment equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Prepare work orders.
  • Maintain and operate wells, reservoirs, pumps, chlorination or other disinfection feed equipment, well, booster station, various water or wastewater treatment or sludge collection equipment, and/or lift station equipment.
  • Perform a variety of hands-on general to specific maintenance tasks including installing valves, cutting with torches, welding, installing pumps, breaking down pumps for inspections and maintenance, installing water cans in new construction of booster stations, adjusting pump impellers, washing walls of reservoirs, repairing water leaks on discharge lines and small fittings, and obtaining Bac-t's samples and chlorine residuals from boosters, wells and reservoirs.
  • Ensure all preventative and corrective maintenance is completed according to all regulatory rules and guidelines.
  • Record water pressure, level, flow rate, stages, RPM's, frame, model number, etc. into a database.
  • Oversee and monitor contractors to ensure work is performed in a proper, safe, and timely manner.
  • Ensure contracted preventative and corrective maintenance is performed to comply with all regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and provide safety training to contracted workers.
  • Supervise crew leaders, trades, technical and labor staff.
  • Schedule, assign, and review operational and procedural activities.
  • Prioritize and coordinate crew activities.
  • Instruct, guide, and check work.
  • Appraise employee performance.
  • Provide training and development.
  • Enforce personnel rules, regulations, and work standards.
  • Counsel, motivate, and maintain harmony.
  • Perform duties of subordinate personnel or others as necessary to ensure continuity of operations during absences.
  • Interact with federal, state and local officials, supervisors, contractors, other departments, coworkers or the general public.
