About The Position

Cardinal Civil Contracting is a heavy civil and site development contractor and part of Cardinal Infrastructure Group, a publicly traded infrastructure company with operations across the Carolinas and Atlanta metro and expansion underway into Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. The Pipe Laborer supports pipe crews installing, maintaining, and repairing underground water, sewer, and storm utility systems. This entry-level role helps keep the crew supplied, trenches prepared, and jobsites clean and safe so pipe is installed efficiently and to specification. The role involves working at active underground utility construction sites, including open trenches, excavations, and work zones near traffic. Employees may be exposed to outdoor weather, heat, cold, noise, dust, mud, and moving heavy equipment. Required PPE is provided and must be worn on all sites. The schedule includes early starts and extended hours, with occasional Saturdays as project needs require. The position is full-time and located in Charlotte, North Carolina. Physical ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb; repeatedly lift and carry 50+ pounds; operate hand tools and equipment; and work in trenches with required protective systems.
Ability to follow instructions carefully.
Attention to detail, physical strength, adaptability, and ability to work in a team.

Nice To Haves

Six months to one year of construction or underground utility experience.
Basic knowledge of construction tools and equipment.
Familiarity with trench safety and underground utility work.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Reliable transportation is identified as a plus in the qualifications section.

Responsibilities

Assist pipe layers and equipment operators with installing water, sewer, and storm drainage systems.
Hand tools and materials to crew members and assist with pipe alignment and placement.
Prepare trenches and jobsites by clearing debris and ensuring proper grading.
Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment to and around jobsites.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company and OSHA standards.
Perform general labor duties as assigned to support project completion.
Follow instructions from supervisors, foremen, and crew leaders.
Maintain predictable and reliable attendance.
Model and enforce Cardinal’s safety program, participate in daily safety briefings, and follow trench and excavation safety protocols.
Comply with company policies and OSHA regulations applicable to the role.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
