About The Position

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College is seeking a Utility Electrical Apprenticeship Instructor to design and deliver engaging instruction and assessment to foster learner success. The instructor will be responsible for developing and revising curriculum, utilizing effective instructional strategies and technologies, and providing timely feedback to students. This role involves creating a supportive learning environment, collaborating on student recruitment and success strategies, and using data to drive improvement. The instructor will also engage with business and industry, participate in college events, and maintain proficient knowledge in emerging trends and occupational practices. Additionally, they will assist in developing adjunct faculty and maintain compliance with faculty quality assurance systems and accreditation requirements. The position also includes managing the classroom and lab for safety and skill acquisition, with a course emphasis on Utilities apprenticeship programs (Meter Tech, Line worker). Instruction and technical support for Corporate Training and Economic Development are also part of the role, along with scouting and procuring equipment, arranging for maintenance, and attending regional meter schools and conferences. Communication with sponsoring utilities for curriculum review is also expected.

Requirements

  • Completion of Apprenticeship Program OR Journey level in subject area OR Associate's degree in related field and five years of direct occupational experience.
  • Specific on the job experience in: Troubleshooting and repair of electrical meters.
  • Installation, testing and maintenance of electric meter, instrument transformers, and communication devices.
  • Install and repairing wiring systems, switches, main switchboards, alternating current (AC) circuits and direct current (DC) circuits.
  • Electrical Print reading.
  • Using hand and power tools.
  • Using specialized testing equipment to ensure proper working order of machines and equipment.
  • AC and DC circuit theory, power calculation, and vector analysis.
  • NESC and NEC Electrical Safety codes
  • Electrical Power Distribution System Basics including transformer connections and system protection.
  • Protective Relaying
  • Utility service rules and tariffs, and regulatory requirements of PSC 113.
  • Interconnection metering for distrusted generation systems.
  • Power quality standards, measurements, and analysis.
  • Meter data collection, including Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) and other meter communication methods.
  • Successful completion of all required screenings is a condition of employment.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and continually revise curriculum that includes adaptation to college delivery standards, strategic directions, employer/advisory feedback, and industry/regulatory standards.
  • Utilize engaging instructional strategies and methodologies which foster student success both in and outside of the classroom.
  • Create learning experiences which integrate multiple alternative or emerging delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success.
  • Provide immediate, routine, and consistent feedback to students to assist them in improving performance in technical and core ability competencies.
  • Create a learning environment that integrates best practices for student success including authentic service learning, student club events, and engagement in profession specific activities.
  • Develop, support, participate and collaborate with other departments on student recruitment, program marketing, and referral of students as needed for student success strategies.
  • Use data to measure quality outcomes related to student persistence, retention, completion rate, course success, and to design improvement strategies based on the evidence.
  • Comply with College policies and practices related to instruction, assessment, and delivery.
  • Engage with business and industry through engagement and participation in advisory committees, including the recruitment of new members, planning of meetings, participation in community groups, and business visits.
  • Participate in community and college-sponsored events to promote the college’s programs and enhance community relationships.
  • Engage in division, department and team meetings and requirements including the development and completion of the college’s strategic planning through team action plans and budget requests.
  • Maintain proficient knowledge and skill in emerging trends and current occupational practices by networking with regional industry leaders and participating in continuing education and professional development.
  • Assist in the development of adjunct faculty through communication, sharing of resources, coaching and mentoring.
  • Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements, faculty progression structure requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation.
  • Manage classroom and lab to ensure students acquire necessary skills for employment while learning in a safe environment.
  • Provide continuous emphasis of safe work practices related to electricity, metering, and field work.
  • Provide instruction and technical support to NWTC Corporate Training and Economic Development.
  • Scout and procure equipment to upgrade technology and equipment used, both purchases and donations, to stay current with industry standards, practices, and challenges.
  • Arrange for equipment maintenance, repairs, and transport to and from.
  • Continue education and promote NWTC apprenticeship programs through attendance and participation in regional meter schools and conferences.
  • Communicate with and visit sponsoring utilities for continuing review of course content and curriculum.
