About The Position

E2 Consulting Engineers, Inc. (E2) is seeking a skilled Utility Distribution Planner to support major electric utility clients — including public utility commissions — across the country. This role focuses on the full lifecycle of electric service installations: reviewing applications, coordinating with stakeholders, preparing cost estimates and bills of materials, conducting field inspections, and delivering construction-ready job packages. The position requires the candidate to be local to Hawaii.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma.
  • 1+ years of experience in utility distribution planning or electric utility project review.
  • Familiarity with utility infrastructure planning workflows, including application review, RFI response, cost estimating, and job package preparation.
  • Working understanding of NESC or similar standards.
  • Ability to perform field inspections and document findings per client or agency standards.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to review submittals and thoroughly check work.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills; ability to engage with contractors, developers, and public agency stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience in utility infrastructure planning or electric utility project coordination.
  • Experience supporting public utility clients (e.g., municipal utilities, public utility commissions).
  • Advanced understanding of NESC, or similar standards.
  • Experience preparing bills of materials, cost estimates, and construction-ready job packages.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation & O-Calc or similar tools for reviewing design submittals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review electric service applications for installations of temporary and permanent overhead and underground utility and service facilities.
  • Review and provide comments on project submittals throughout the project life cycle.
  • Review and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prepare initial bill of materials and cost estimates for utility service applications.
  • Perform field inspections and prepare field reports in accordance with client and city standards.
  • Prepare complete job packages containing all final information needed to construct each project.
  • Validate design information such as structure type, conductor specifications, material standards, and constructability against utility standards.
  • Attend scheduling, coordination, and progress meetings with internal and external stakeholders (utility clients, contractors, developers, and other agencies).
  • Collaborate effectively in a team environment to meet project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Other duties as assigned.
