About The Position

This is a split position, with 2 hours per day at Valley Academy and 6 hours per day assigned to other buildings as needed. The role promotes a clean, safe, and productive learning and teaching environment by performing general custodial services. Responsibilities include keeping assigned building areas, including sidewalks and driveways, clean and orderly. The position also involves setting up and removing furniture and equipment for school and community events. The job requires physical exertion, including lifting, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, reaching, climbing, and balancing. The custodian must work indoors and outdoors year-round, in noisy and crowded environments, and in areas with dust, fumes, and odors. The role also focuses on promoting student, staff, and parent safety, health, and comfort, and interacting with the public in a friendly manner. The custodian will ensure buildings are opened and secured as necessary, use custodial power equipment and hand implements, and ensure cleaning products are used and stored safely.

Requirements

Minimum graduation from high school or equivalent.
Knowledge of general school cleaning problems; methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work.
Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; push and pull; and talk or hear and smell.
Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Occasionally required to sit, climb, and balance.
Must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Attendance and punctuality are important functions of this position.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience in school custodial work preferred.

Keep the building and premises, including sidewalks and driveways, neat and clean at all times.
Set up and/or remove furniture and equipment as required for various school and community events and activities as directed.
Strive constantly to promote the safety, health and comfort of the students, staff and parents.
Promote goodwill by meeting the public in a friendly and cordial manner.
Ensure the building is open and secured as necessary.
Use custodial power equipment and hand implements required for cleaning.
Ensure cleaning products are used and stored safely and appropriately.
Other duties as assigned.
