About The Position
The Utility Crew Leader II supervises a crew, operates heavy equipment, installs sewer and water taps, repairs water leaks, and assists service technicians in cleaning sewer lines. This role involves repairing, replacing, and installing water and sewer lines, valves, fire hydrants, clean-outs, manholes, and related equipment. The position also includes installing taps for water and sewer, providing supervision and training for assigned crew members, and operating various hand tools and heavy equipment. Additionally, the Utility Crew Leader II plans and orders necessary parts, supplies, and equipment, inspects all equipment before use, and ensures adherence to safety policies and proper use of PPE. The role requires preparing job documents, documenting data in the work order management system, providing and marking locations for water and sewer lines, and using sewer cameras for inspections. The position also involves following City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, and performing other assigned duties.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- One year of supervisory experience
- Valid Class A CDL with tanker endorsement
- Class C Water Distribution and Class III Wastewater Collection licenses OR Class B Water Distribution and Class II Wastewater Collection licenses
Responsibilities
- Repairs, replaces, and installs water and sewer lines, valves, fire hydrants, clean-outs, manholes, and related equipment.
- Installs taps for water and sewer.
- Provides supervision and training for assigned crew members.
- Operates hand tools and heavy equipment including backhoes, front-end loaders, trenching machines, boring machines, and various other equipment.
- Plans, coordinates, and orders necessary parts, supplies and equipment for assigned jobs.
- Inspects all equipment before use and reports problems to supervisor or fleet maintenance.
- Ensures that all safety policies are adhered to, and PPE is utilized.
- Ensures safety equipment is used, inspected, and installed correctly for each assignment.
- Prepares job documents recording parts, man hours, and equipment used on the job.
- Documents all pertinent data in the work order management system.
- Provides and marks locations for water and sewer lines for other departments, customers and the public.
- Uses sewer camera to inspect sewer mains and services, and various other pipelines.
- Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
