About The Position

AlphaGov is engaging a Utility Coordination & Grid Interconnection Specialist for current public EV charging and fleet electrification work. The specialist will guide public agencies through utility make-ready programs, service upgrades, interconnection timelines, and rate analysis to help keep charging projects on schedule. Scope, schedule, and fee are confirmed with the consultant before each engagement begins. Engagements are project-based and remote-first, with occasional client travel or meetings. With the consultant’s authorization, AlphaGov may identify them as an expert collaborator or key personnel on proposals that match their expertise. The consultant may also contribute qualifications and past-performance narratives to proposals when they authorize being named.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating utility service upgrades or interconnection for EV charging or similar loads.
  • Working knowledge of make-ready programs, demand charges, and utility process timelines.
  • Strong written coordination skills with utilities, engineers, and public-agency facilities teams.
  • Comfortable working as a 1099 project-based consultant in a remote-first arrangement with occasional client or utility meetings.

Nice To Haves

  • Utility, municipal, or consulting background involving EVSE, fleet depots, or distributed energy interconnection.
  • Experience with investor-owned utility (IOU) or municipal utility make-ready incentives and NEVI/CFI utility coordination.
  • Familiarity with distributed energy resources (DER), battery storage, or managed charging programs that reduce demand charges.

Responsibilities

  • Map utility make-ready, service upgrade, and interconnection steps for agency EVSE and depot projects.
  • Prepare or review load letters, interconnection applications, and utility coordination packages.
  • Analyze rate schedules, demand charges, and time-of-use options that affect charger operating costs.
  • Advise agencies on utility timelines, capacity constraints, and phasing to avoid stranded assets.
  • Coordinate with agency facilities teams, engineers, and utility account managers through design and energization.
  • Document risks, dependencies, and decision points for project managers and elected briefings.
  • Contribute qualifications and past-performance narratives to AlphaGov proposals when authorized to be named.
