About The Position

The Utility Cleanup Operator L1 is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work environment throughout the sawmill. This position performs general housekeeping, material handling, and cleanup duties to support production operations, ensure compliance with safety standards, and promote equipment reliability. The Utility Cleanup Operator assists with removing wood waste and debris, maintaining work areas, supporting operational needs as assigned, and contributing to the overall productivity and cleanliness of the facility while working safely and effectively as part of the mill team. This position is an entry-level position responsible for supporting mill operations while learning the sawmill process, cross-training in other roles, and developing the skills necessary for advancement. The hourly rate of pay for this position is $19.70.

Requirements

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR G.E.D. REQUIRED
No prior experience is required. This is an entry-level position designed for individuals who are eager to learn and develop skills within a sawmill manufacturing environment.
Successful candidates will receive on-the-job training in safe work practices, housekeeping standards, equipment operation, and mill processes.
A strong work ethic, positive attitude, commitment to safety, and willingness to learn are essential for success in this role.

Nice To Haves

Previous general labor, manufacturing, warehouse, construction, forestry, or industrial experience is beneficial but not required.
Experience operating forklifts, skid steers, loaders, sweepers, or other mobile equipment is preferred.
Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety, the ability to work effectively as part of a team, and a willingness to learn sawmill processes and equipment.
The successful candidate will be dependable, self-motivated, able to perform physically demanding work in varying environmental conditions and committed to maintaining high housekeeping standards that support safe and efficient mill operations.
On-the-job training will be provided.

Responsibilities

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment throughout the sawmill, kiln, and planer production areas.
Remove wood waste, bark, sawdust, scrap lumber, and other debris from production areas using hand tools and assigned equipment.
Assist with cleanup around conveyors, saws, chippers, sorting lines, stackers, and other mill equipment while following lockout/tagout procedures.
Sweep, shovel, rake, and dispose of accumulated materials to prevent safety hazards and maintain efficient operations.
Monitor work areas for housekeeping, fire, trip, slip, and equipment hazards and promptly report concerns to supervision.
Perform cleanup associated with equipment breakdowns, repairs, and production changeovers.
Ensure waste materials are collected, segregated, and disposed of according to company procedures and environmental requirements.
Conduct basic inspections of assigned tools and equipment and report maintenance needs.
Support mill operations during peak production periods, shutdowns, and special projects.
Perform other duties as assigned to support safe and efficient sawmill operations.
Display a willingness to learn sawmill processes, equipment operation, and advancement opportunities within the organization.
Follow all company safety rules, PPE requirements, and sawmill operating procedures.
Follow all Lockout Tagout Procedures and Policies.
Participate in daily safety meetings, job briefings, and required training programs.
