About The Position

The City of Auburn Finance Department is looking for a Utility Billing Account Representative to join their team. This position performs basic accounting, clerical work, and customer service tasks. This position is a front-facing role focused on providing the best utility billing customer service experience possible. The City of Auburn is seeking a candidate who has excellent time management, prioritizes workloads, and has office experience in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

Graduation from high school supplemented by college coursework in accounting, or equivalent AND Two years closely related work experience OR a combination of education, experience, and training that would indicate the ability to successfully accomplish the primary functions listed above.

Responsibilities

Explain special billing and service programs to customers (e.g., Winter Averaging, low-income utility assistance, and solid waste/recycling programs).
Determine probability of eligibility based on specific written guidelines and refer customers to appropriate assistance agencies.
Perform record maintenance on special billing programs/accounts, with guidance by supervisor.
Update and maintain accurate account information in the customer information system by inputting changes, such as name and address changes, billing adjustments, and service disconnections.
Perform cashiering duties for utility payments, miscellaneous AR, including police seizure funds; post transactions and documents, including adjusting journal entries.
Open and close accounts for customers of one or more City utilities; request, verify and/or change information for proper billing.
