About The Position

The City of Auburn Finance Department is looking for a Utility Billing Account Representative to join their team. This position performs basic accounting, clerical work, and customer service tasks. This position is a front-facing role focused on providing the best utility billing customer service experience possible. The City of Auburn is seeking a candidate who has excellent time management, prioritizes workloads, and has office experience in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school supplemented by college coursework in accounting, or equivalent AND Two years closely related work experience OR a combination of education, experience, and training that would indicate the ability to successfully accomplish the primary functions listed above.

Responsibilities

  • Explain special billing and service programs to customers (e.g., Winter Averaging, low-income utility assistance, and solid waste/recycling programs).
  • Determine probability of eligibility based on specific written guidelines and refer customers to appropriate assistance agencies.
  • Perform record maintenance on special billing programs/accounts, with guidance by supervisor.
  • Update and maintain accurate account information in the customer information system by inputting changes, such as name and address changes, billing adjustments, and service disconnections.
  • Perform cashiering duties for utility payments, miscellaneous AR, including police seizure funds; post transactions and documents, including adjusting journal entries.
  • Open and close accounts for customers of one or more City utilities; request, verify and/or change information for proper billing.
