About The Position
Miami Valley Community Action Partnership (MVCAP) is seeking a Utility Assistance Specialist to provide direct support to individuals and families applying for energy assistance programs. This position works directly with clients to explain program requirements, assist with applications, verify documentation, and connect clients with available resources. The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, detail-oriented, and comfortable working directly with clients who may be experiencing challenging circumstances.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- At least 24 months of experience in intake, administrative work, direct client services, or customer service
- Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills
- Ability to accurately review documents and maintain detailed records
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
- Empathy, patience, professionalism, and discretion when working with sensitive information
Nice To Haves
- Experience with intake systems, databases, or similar software is preferred
- Social services education or related experience is a plus
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with applications for Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), PIPP+, and crisis assistance programs
- Explain program eligibility requirements and application procedures
- Review applications for completeness, accuracy, and required documentation
- Process applications received in person and through online systems
- Interview clients and gather required verification information
- Maintain accurate client records, referrals, and application status information
- Respond to client questions by phone and in person
- Refer clients to additional MVCAP and community resources when appropriate
- Provide professional, respectful, and compassionate customer service
- Participate in outreach activities and occasional off-site application assistance as needed
- Maintain client confidentiality and professional boundaries
