About The Position

Daisy Brand, a fifth-generation family-owned dairy company, is opening a new manufacturing facility in Boone, Iowa. As a member of the start-up team, you will complete paid, structured training at established plants nationwide, work with Engineering during installation and commissioning, and transition into the new facility. The Utility Maintenance Technician manages the operations, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all plant utility systems, including low pressure steam supply/return, ammonia refrigeration, compressed air, wastewater, water purification, and various cooling/heating water loops. Responsibilities include daily oversight of utility systems, completing daily rounds, PMs, scheduled and emergency work orders, and assisting with projects. The technician will also address building-related issues such as restrooms, lighting, HVAC, roofing, and plumbing. The role ensures building and utility systems operate at peak efficiency, supporting food safety and quality.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience with industrial ammonia, steam, electrical systems.
  • Excellent Formal and Informal Communication Skills, Professional Attitude, and Professional Appearance.
  • Excellent electrical controls understanding and troubleshooting required.
  • Experience maintaining/rebuilding/replacing mechanical components (pumps, motors, VFDs, valves, bearings).
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs (5, 500, 5000).
  • Strong Office Computer Skills (Word, Excel, MS Project).
  • Knowledge and understanding of plant utility equipment: Boilers, air compressors, water systems including reverse osmosis, ammonia refrigeration, and electrical distribution.
  • Willing and able to travel periodically as needed prior to plant startup.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule during the startup and training period, including potential weekend travel and work.

Nice To Haves

  • Boiler/ammonia certifications preferred (RETA, Boiler Operator).
  • Experience with Food and Beverage Manufacturing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Daily observation of all utility machinery.
  • Daily recording of key operating parameters.
  • Frequent checks using plant automation software to ensure systems are running properly.
  • Completing Preventive Maintenance work orders for utility and building systems.
  • Observing and reporting equipment condition and scheduling necessary additional work.
  • Completing regular work orders to repair building and utility systems.
  • Communicating with personnel requesting work to ensure satisfaction.
  • Initiating and completing emergency work orders in response to machine/system failures.
  • Determining root cause quickly and efficiently and forming an action plan for repairs.
  • Assisting Utility Engineer and Plant Engineer with building/utility maintenance projects.
  • Developing scope, parts list, and other planning for assigned projects.
  • Performing as a leader during/after plant power outages, restoring plant utilities.
  • Providing guidance in the event of an ammonia/steam release.
  • Diagnosing and repairing building/utility systems quickly to restore plant operations.
  • Following up with Utility Engineer regarding cause, symptoms, and remedy.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
