About The Position

James Madison University's Facilities Management is hiring a Utilities Supervisor Senior to organize, manage, supervise, and maintain a comprehensive building maintenance program. The position ensures that buildings are serviced and maintained to a high standard while working directly with building coordinators, customers, and contractors. The role supervises staff in a 24/7 multi-craft environment and performs or coordinates maintenance and repairs across student housing, academic, and administrative facilities.

Requirements

Extensive knowledge of zone maintenance concepts and building utility repairs, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, roofs, carpet, and building codes.
Strong supervisory and project management skills.
Ability to identify and troubleshoot facility breakdowns and assign employees with the appropriate skill level to resolve them.
Extensive knowledge of power tools.
Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
Ability to inspect work for quality control.
Ability to communicate effectively, promptly, and professionally with a variety of people.
Knowledge of basic computer skills and budgeting.
Ability to accommodate temporary shift demands as required by business needs.
Successful completion of a criminal background check and an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR).

Responsibilities

Effectively supervise staff working in a 24/7 multi-craft environment.
Communicate essential information to employees, trade managers, and other designated individuals.
Schedule and delegate tasks.
Work with procurement to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
Perform building maintenance and repairs involving electrical, plumbing, painting, utility, and carpentry needs in student housing, academic, and administrative facilities.
Coordinate with the planner/scheduler on scheduled work and keep relevant personnel updated.
Assist with event planning, labor, and implementation as needed.
