Join UCF's Utilities and Engineering Services team in a hands-on role responsible for the installation, testing, calibration, and maintenance of electric, chilled water, and heating hot water metering systems that support more than $25 million in annual utility cost recovery. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate utility measurement and billing by verifying meter performance, troubleshooting metering and data collection systems, and supporting the implementation of new utility metering infrastructure while working primarily in the field.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma or Equivalent and 2+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
  • Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license.
  • The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
  • All applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience installing, calibrating, troubleshooting, and maintaining utility metering systems for electric, chilled water, heating hot water, water, natural gas, or similar utility applications.
  • Demonstrated experience with revenue-grade metering and utility billing systems, including meter accuracy verification, testing, and data validation.
  • Knowledge of building automation and metering communication systems, including BACnet, AMR/AMI technologies, smart grid systems, or related networked metering platforms.
  • Experience analyzing utility consumption data, interval data, and meter performance trends to identify discrepancies, system failures, and opportunities for improved system accuracy.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, utility plans, schematics, and as-built documents related to metering installations and utility infrastructure.
  • Experience programming, configuring, and commissioning electronic metering equipment, including BTU meters, transmitters, sensors, and data collection devices.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain relevant industry certifications, such as Instrumentation and Controls Technician certifications, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP), or OSHA 10/30-Hour certification.

Responsibilities

  • Install, test, calibrate, maintain, and repair electric, chilled water, and heating hot water metering systems.
  • Troubleshoot utility meters, sensors, communications equipment, and automated meter reading systems to ensure accurate data collection and billing.
  • Analyze meter performance and utility consumption data to identify, investigate, and resolve measurement or reporting issues.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and meter accuracy testing to support reliable, revenue-grade utility metering.
  • Program and configure utility metering equipment, including BTU meters and building automation system (BAS) communications.
  • Support the installation, commissioning, and replacement of utility metering infrastructure and assist with contractor coordination during construction and maintenance projects.
  • Review drawings, meter installations, and system configurations to ensure compliance with departmental standards and accurate utility measurement.
  • Maintain technical documentation, calibration records, work orders, and metering data using computerized maintenance and utility management systems.
  • Serve as a technical resource for utility metering, energy calculations, and measurement best practices.
  • Work primarily in the field while collaborating with utility, maintenance, controls, and construction teams to support campus utility operations.
