About The Position

The Utilities Shift Operator/Technician will be responsible for operating and maintaining all utility services and systems to support production, laboratory, and site operations on a continuous basis. The Utilities Plant Operator (UPO) is responsible for operating and maintaining Utility systems to include but not limited to steam generation, high purity water generation and storage, compressed air generation, cooling towers, condensate return systems, solvent distillation and wastewater treatment. The Production Support Operator (PSO) is responsible for operating and maintaining industrial and commercial refrigeration equipment including but not limited to: Frick, York, Trane, Howden and Vilter compressor packages ranging in size from 5 to 2200 tons, compressor packages and/or centrifugal, reciprocating and screw compressors having R134A, R404, R717, R22 and R507 and various other refrigerant types, HVAC, Cooling towers and Evaporative Condensers. The Critical Utilities Operator (CUO) is responsible for operating and maintaining Utility systems to include but not limited to steam generation, high purity water generation and storage, compressed air generation, condensate return systems.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in a relevant technical field preferred
  • 4 years relevant experience (Utilities Shift Operator 1)
  • 6 years relevant experience (Utilities Shift Operator 2)
  • 8 years relevant experience (Utilities Shift Operator 3)
  • Directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine operation, troubleshooting and some corrective maintenance on utility services and systems as assigned by areas of responsibility
  • Understand operation of equipment and systems and how they impact utility customers and site processes
  • Provide detailed documentation of all utility operations (data collection, log books)
  • Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System to document activity
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures, Utility Operations Procedures, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, job plans and/or equipment manuals to perform work
  • Adhere to cGMP, Safety, and Environmental procedures
  • Issue/complete job hazard analysis/safe work permits (hot work, excavating, confined space, hazardous atmosphere, etc.)
  • Responsible for maintaining training curriculum requirements
  • Complete required Utilities Qualifications
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal form
  • Assist with modification, installation and start up of new and existing equipment
  • Active member of the facility emergency response team
  • Develop knowledge and skills needed perform job as required by the area of responsibility
  • Perform all responsibilities as defined in previous job level
  • This job level requires proficiency in most areas of responsibility
  • May perform training of other technicians in areas of proficiency as needed
  • Troubleshoot and perform emergency maintenance
