About The Position

The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Wastewater Operator 1 to 3 within the Utilities department of the Infrastructure Services division. This role reports to the Chief Wastewater Operator and involves assisting in the operation, monitoring, and general maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment and facilities, adhering to BC Ministry of Environment Regulations. The position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly and is a temporary role until June 30th, 2027.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 diploma.
  • 1-2 years of related work experience.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment processes, including enhanced biological nutrient removal.
  • Knowledge of SCADA programming.
  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and operations of a treatment plant.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings.
  • Ability to maintain daily logs.
  • Understanding of safety regulations and occupational hazards related to the work.
  • Physically able to perform moderate to heavy lifting and work in all weather conditions.
  • Strong communications skills.
  • Ability to problem solve using critical thinking.
  • Valid EOCP Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collections Level 1 certification.
  • Valid class 5 BC driver’s license.
  • Satisfactory driver’s abstract before starting employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of post-secondary education in Environmental Monitoring or Water and Wastewater Technology program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operation, monitoring, and general maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment and facilities.
  • Perform routine inspections of equipment, monitors, meters, and control panels.
  • Establish schedules and procedures for equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, and instruments.
  • Carry out routine testing and maintain records and logs.
  • Read and interpret drawings.
  • Maintain daily logs.
  • Understand safety regulations and occupational hazards related to the work.
  • Perform moderate to heavy lifting and work in all weather conditions.
