About The Position

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Utilities Repair Technician for the 2nd Shift at their Large Power Systems Division in Lafayette, IN. This role is responsible for the mechanical troubleshooting and repair of complex domestic and foreign machines and related equipment used in assembly, torque, and material movement functions. The technician will also be responsible for mechanical repairs to utilities, test cells, building and grounds, pump rebuilds, HVAC, and boiler operations, as well as general assembly maintenance. Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of Industrial utilities and repair experience.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems (e.g., compressors, valves).
Proven boiler operator experience.
Ability to read and understand mechanical prints.
Basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
Basic welding and cutting skills.
Ability to operate basic tools to complete the utilities controller job.
Self-starter and self-motivated individual who works well individually in a team environment.
Ability to work in a fast pace, medium to heavy duty assembly, technical environment.
Work may involve frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling, twisting, turning, climbing, and standing on concrete for 8+ hours.
Ability to lift 40 pounds.
Withstand frequent repetitive movement of hands with a variety of tooling.
Able to work in heights and confined spaces.

Nice To Haves

Extensive experience in the mechanical and/or electrical repair of machine tools and related equipment is helpful.
Successfully completed an approved HVAC training program and possess practical experience in the HVAC field.
Background with the ability to troubleshoot and repair large scale dynamometers will be helpful.
Background with ABB robots will be helpful.

Responsibilities

Mechanically troubleshoot and repair complex domestic and foreign machines and related equipment that perform assembly, torque, and material movement functions in the assembly areas.
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues related to utilities, test cells, building and grounds, pump rebuilds, HVAC, boiler operation, and assembly maintenance.
Install, repair, and maintain hydraulic systems, precision bearings, HVAC, and various controllers on machines in assembly areas.
Perform repairs on equipment such as boilers, pumps, P&H cranes and hoists, conveyors, torque tools, washers, ABB robots, paint booths, and Test Cells.
Ensure proper leveling and alignment of machines, alignment of shafts, and proper functioning of gearing.
Apply knowledge of lubrication principles, pipefitting, and tube bending.
Work overtime opportunities to support production demands.
Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including compressors and valves.
Operate basic tools to complete utilities controller jobs.
Perform basic welding and cutting skills.
